The Association of Psychologists in Bulgaria Joins a New European Project Promoting Student and Teacher Well-Being – WELL-SCHOOL

WELL-SCHOOL

Whole-School Education for Learning, Life-Skills and Well-Being

 Project Number: 2026-1-BG01-KA220-SCH-000451872

Duration: 1 September 2026 – 31 August 2028

Programme: Erasmus+, Cooperation Partnerships in School Education (KA220-SCH)

WELL-SCHOOL is a 24-month Erasmus+ project that aims to promote well-being, healthy lifestyles and inclusive learning environments in schools. The project brings together four partners from Bulgaria, Spain and Türkiye, combining expertise in school education, school leadership and psychology.

The project responds to the growing need to place students’ and teachers’ physical and mental well-being at the heart of school education. It promotes a whole-school approach in which well-being is not treated as a separate activity, but becomes an integral part of teaching, learning and everyday school life.

What does WELL-SCHOOL aim to achieve?

The project has four main objectives:

  • Improve the physical and mental well-being of students and teachers through competency-based programmes focusing on healthy eating, learning through movement and sustainable lifestyles.
  • Strengthen teachers’ and school leaders’ capacities through practical training and educational resources that support active learning and well-being in the classroom.
  • Promote inclusion and prevent early school leaving by creating supportive educational pathways and targeted approaches for disadvantaged students.
  • Support the long-term use and transfer of project results through practical tools, a whole-school approach and a network of engaged stakeholders.

What will the project deliver?

The WELL-SCHOOL project will deliver a set of practical, competency-based and freely accessible educational resources supporting the physical and mental well-being of students and teachers.

WP2.Educational Programmes for Well-Being and Learning

Three interconnected competency-based educational programmes will be developed, tested and validated:

“Nutrition and Academic Performance” – combining healthy eating, self-regulation and learning-to-learn competences.

“Learning through Movement” – using physical activity and movement as tools for cognitive activation, concentration, engagement and sustainable mobility.

“Be a Role Model” – supporting teachers as facilitators of well-being, active learning and positive behaviour.

Each programme will be accompanied by practical learning materials, classroom activities, self-assessment tools and implementation guidelines. The programmes will be validated with teachers, students and external experts and prepared for use in real school environments.

WP3. Resources, Training and Inclusive Learning

The project will transform the developed programmes into accessible resources and practical learning opportunities. Key results will include an open e-book, 12 podcasts featuring experts, teachers and practical examples, and 12 videos demonstrating good practices in school settings. All resources will be made available as Open Educational Resources (OER), allowing schools and educators to use, adapt and reuse them free of charge.

The project will also provide specialised training for 30 teachers and educational experts, helping them develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to integrate well-being, active learning and healthy lifestyles into everyday teaching.

In addition, 300 students will participate in interactive learning activities focused on healthy habits, self-regulation, concentration, active participation and the connection between well-being and school success. Specialised and adapted training will also be provided for 40 disadvantaged students, supporting equal access to learning opportunities, motivation and participation in school life, while contributing to the prevention of early school leaving.

WP4. Dissemination, Sustainability and Transfer

The project results will be widely shared through national and international dissemination activities, online and offline communication, multiplier events and promotional materials. The partnership will engage schools, educational institutions and other relevant stakeholders and aim to reach at least 1,000 external users through online channels.

To support the long-term use of the results, the project will develop a School Toolkit, a Policy Brief for school principals and school leaders, and Replication Guidelines for schools and organisations interested in adopting the WELL-SCHOOL approach.

The project will also encourage the uptake of the results beyond the partnership, with the aim of engaging external schools and organisations and integrating the developed resources into the partners’ own educational practices.

All project educational resources will be provided with open access, supporting their continued use, adaptation and transfer to different school contexts.

Through these results, WELL-SCHOOL will create a tested and transferable whole-school model connecting teacher capacity building, student engagement, inclusion, healthy lifestyles, active learning and well-being.

To ensure that the results continue to be used beyond the project period, WELL-SCHOOL will develop a School Toolkit, a short policy for school principals and guidelines for transferring and replicating the project approach in other schools and education systems.

A partnership for healthier and more inclusive schools

WELL-SCHOOL is implemented by:

  • OU “Hristo Botev” – Bulgaria, project coordinator
  • ASADIPRE – Spain
  • Mavi Pencere Özel Eğitim Derneği – Türkiye
  • Association of Psychologists in Bulgaria – Bulgaria

Together, the partners will work towards a common vision: schools where learning, life skills, inclusion and well-being go hand in hand.

The project contributes to the Erasmus+ priorities of promoting well-being at school, supporting teachers and school leaders, and strengthening inclusion and diversity, while also addressing digital educational practices, sustainable lifestyles, physical and mental health, and well-being.

WELL-SCHOOL, because a healthy school is a better place to learn, grow and thrive.
